Panel Discussion on Adolescent Identity & Digital Engagement at PsyCon ’25

On November 12, the Institute of Psychology hosted a dynamic panel discussion as part of the 1st International Child PsyCon 2025, examining how adolescents navigate identity, self-esteem, and digital exposure in today’s fast-paced world. The discussion emphasized South Asian cultural influences, micro-celebrity phenomena, and the risks of low self-esteem driving online visibility.

Speakers stressed the importance of questioning labels, setting boundaries, practicing empathy, maintaining calm communication, and balancing digital engagement with offline hobbies and social connections. The panel provided actionable insights for supporting adolescent mental health and promoting healthy digital habits.

Dr. Ruhi Khalid, Panel Chair and Director of IP, highlighted the crucial role of parents in fostering “digital wisdom” and guiding children through online spaces responsibly. The session reinforced the need for informed, proactive support systems that empower adolescents and strengthen parental engagement in the digital era.
