Bio

Ghammaz Husnain is an Assistant Professor at the Razia Hassan School of Architecture, Beaconhouse National University (BNU), where he leads the fourth-year Bachelor of Architecture studio. His academic and professional focus lies at the intersection of urban planning, public policy, and equitable development. He also serves as Director of the Centre for Urban & Rural Environment at RHSA, spearheading research and policy initiatives supported by institutions such as the American Institute for Pakistan Studies, the International Growth Centre at the London School of Economics, and The Wilson Center in Washington, DC. His teaching centers on pressing urban issues such as mobility, housing equity, and slum rehabilitation, offering students a rigorous, policy-driven design education grounded in real-world challenges.

Husnain holds a Master of Science in Urban Planning and Policy Design from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, where his thesis focused on the governance of cross-border regions and special economic zones. Prior to that, he earned a Bachelor of Architecture from BNU with honors, where he investigated the rehabilitation of urban landfill sites as part of his undergraduate thesis. His academic foundation informs his critical approach to planning and design, emphasizing sustainable, resilient, and inclusive urban development.

In addition to his academic career, Ghammaz Husnain has been involved in several notable research and curatorial projects. As a Research Associate at Politecnico di Milano, he contributed to a project on urban planning during emergencies. His published work spans topics from urban crisis response in Karachi to the governance of special economic zones under CPEC, and the revitalization of Lahore’s historic urban centers. He has also co-curated high-profile exhibitions, including the Design Summit at Lahore Fort and the IAPEX 2024 segment, “Beyond Boundaries.”

Husnain is a licensed architect and urbanist, registered with the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners and the Institute of Architects Pakistan. His professional development includes advanced training in robotic fabrication through the Architectural Association Visiting School in Istanbul. His recent conference engagements and public discourse contributions underscore his growing influence in shaping urban policy and design thinking in Pakistan and beyond.
