Dr. Shazia Humayun is an educationist, trainer and academic leader with over 20 years of experience. She is Assistant Professor and Head of SE-EDx at BNU, specializing in leadership, school reform, and teacher development. Her work spans teaching, research, policy, and training, impacting education systems across Pakistan and internationally.
Dr. Shazia Humayun is an accomplished educationist, academic leader, and a passionate advocate for transformative learning practices, currently serving as Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Management and Head of SE-EDx at the School of Education, Beaconhouse National University (BNU). With over two decades of rich and diverse experience across Pakistan and internationally, she brings a unique blend of scholarly depth, strategic insight, and an unwavering commitment to educational excellence. Dr. Humayun is recognized for her strong belief in collaborative leadership and her ability to inspire teams toward shared educational goals through vision, integrity, and empathy.
As an Assistant Professor, Dr. Humayun teaches and mentors MPhil students, guiding research in the domain of Educational Leadership and Management. Her academic role encompasses curriculum design, instructional development, and leading engaging classroom discourse. Beyond teaching, she is actively involved in research and publication, contributing scholarly work that shapes discourse in leadership, school improvement, and teacher development. She is a firm proponent of interdisciplinary collaboration and regularly partners with colleagues and students on impactful research initiatives.
Her leadership in SE-EDx, the outreach and engagement wing of the School of Education at BNU, reflects her commitment to bridging academia with community impact. She spearheads efforts in educational development, capacity building, and policy engagement, fostering a culture of innovation and reflection among educators and school leaders.
Prior to joining BNU, Dr. Humayun worked as a Consultant at Premier DLC, a pioneering initiative focused on public-private partnerships in education. There, she contributed to teacher training, leadership development, and the integration of blended learning technologies. Her work involved designing training modules, conducting field research, and evaluating school effectiveness, with a particular focus on improving learning outcomes and systemic accountability. Her initiatives extended to provinces such as Punjab, Sindh, and former FATA regions, positively influencing the educational landscape across multiple tiers.
Between 2020 and 2022, Dr. Humayun served as Education Specialist with the Punjab Human Capital Investment Project (PHCIP) under the School Education Department (SED), Punjab. In this capacity, she led strategic reforms in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), co-developing policy frameworks, learning kits aligned with the Single National Curriculum (SNC), and training programs for over 3,000 schools. She worked closely with international donors including UNICEF, the World Bank, and FCDO, ensuring alignment with global best practices and sustainable development goals.
Earlier, Dr. Humayun held the role of General Manager – Academics at The City School, where she managed academic leadership for one of the largest private school networks in Pakistan. She led the implementation of the British National Curriculum and CAIE frameworks, introduced blended learning platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic, and oversaw academic teams across regional offices. Her work in curriculum mapping, professional development, and school improvement had a wide-reaching impact on over 150,000 students and hundreds of educators across the country.
Her early career includes roles such as Graduate Assistant at Louisiana State University, where she supported instructional design and higher education research, and General Duty Trainer at Beaconhouse School System, where she led teacher training and curriculum development initiatives. Dr. Humayun also contributed significantly to projects like the School Improvement Project, Development of Hubs of Excellence, and the TCS Blended Learning Platform, exemplifying her expertise in systems thinking, academic innovation, and teacher effectiveness.
Dr. Humayun holds a PhD in Education from Louisiana State University, USA, with advanced degrees in Educational Leadership and Management (MPhil, BNU), Microbiology (MSc, University of Karachi), and Law (LLB, Sindh Madrassa-tul-Islam College). Her academic credentials are further strengthened by international certifications from Cambridge, Coursera, University of Reading, and others in teaching, ICT integration, and educational leadership.
