Beaconhouse National University is hosting a three-day national workshop titled Building Sustainable & Affordable Futures from January 9–11, 2026. Initiated by the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) in collaboration with BNU and the Razia Hassan School of Architecture (RHSA), the program focuses on sustainable housing and urban futures.
Building Sustainable & Affordable Futures is conceived at a time when questions of housing, climate, resources and community are deeply interconnected. The workshop approaches learning not as instruction, but as exploration through making, observing, questioning and reflection. Rather than treating sustainability as an abstract ideal, the program engages participants directly with the materials, sites and systems that shape the built environment. Through hands-on construction using bamboo, earth and dry-building techniques—alongside site visits, policy dialogues and exposure to campus-scale sustainability practices—the workshop creates a shared space where design, governance and lived realities intersect. By bringing together students, educators, practitioners and policymakers, the platform seeks to cultivate new ways of thinking about housing that are rooted in local context, informed by practice and responsive to Pakistan’s social and environmental futures. The detailed workshop schedule is attached for reference.
