Imran Khan Unveils Plaque of Razia Hassan School of Architecture
The naming ceremony of the Beaconhouse National University’s School of Architecture was held on April 13, 2014 at BNU Tarogil Campus. The School of Architecture has been named after the late mother of Dr. Parvez Hassan, who is a renowned lawyer, environmentalist and philanthropist. He is a member of the Board of Directors, Beaconhouse National University Foundation and the Board of Governors, BNU.
Mr. Imran Khan, Founding Chairman, Board of Governors of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Chancellor of University of Bradford, Founder Namal College Mianwali, Former Captain of Pakistan Cricket Team, a Sitting Parliamentarian and the Chairman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Mr. Imran Khan emphasized the importance of education and institutionalization of public and private sector organization. He said that no nation can make progress in the absence of education. On this occasion, he announced that KPK government will soon introduce a school adoption scheme in order to provide missing facilities at public schools and improve education standards.
Mr. Imran Khan highly appreciated the philanthropic contributions of Dr. Parvez Hassan. He also applauded the efforts of Mrs. Nasreen Mahmud Kasuri in filling the gap left in the education sector due to inadequate availability of public institutions to provide quality education.
Dr. Parvez Hassan talked about the life and times of his mother, late Razia Hassan in his speech. He said that his mother advocated the cause of education throughout her life. He also talked about his association with BNU that goes beyond him being a member of the Board of Directors and the Board of Governors of the university. The family members of Dr. Parvez Hassan were also in attendance on the occasion including his daughter Yasmeen and son Mr. Omer Hassan.
Mrs. Nasreen Mahmud Kasuri also addressed the gathering and acknowledged the generous contributions of Dr. Parvez Hassan and his family at every stage in the development of Beaconhouse National University. She said that while Education environment in Pakistan is saturated by business institutions, BNU follows the “path less travelled” by promoting liberal arts education which is grounded in the development of analytical thinking, effective and persuasive communication and an articulation of ideas that lead to new possibilities. She added that BNU focuses on disseminating learning and encouraging research in diverse areas which is essential for the economic, academic and cultural advancement of the country.
Present at the ceremony were some of the most eminent academics and philanthropists of Pakistan. These included Syed Babar Ali, Mr. Razzaq Dawood, Vice Chancellor BNU, Mr. Shahid Hafiz Kardar and members of the BNU Board of Governors of BNU, Mr. Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, Mr. Kasim Mahmud Kasuri, Mr. Shamim S. Khan and Dr. Khalique-ur-Rahman. Also present were Deans of BNU Schools Dr. S. Gulzar Haider, Dr. Mehdi Hasan, Dr. Tariq Rahman, Dr. Ruhi Khalid, Dr. Khaver Zia, the former Dean of BNU School of Liberal Arts, Mrs. Navid Shahzad, and renowned architect and Distinguished Professor of Practice at BNU School of Architecture, Nayyar Ali Dada besides faculty and students of BNU.
