Cultivating the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Grant

The AAS emphasized the remarkable selectivity of this year's grant competition, highlighting that the Review Committee was particularly impressed with Dr. Abbas's proposed project #3600 titled "Theatre of Colonial Lahore (1900-1947)."

Dr. Abbas's research project aims to delve into the rich and diverse theatre and performance traditions of colonial Lahore. It seeks to examine how these traditions were influenced by various factors such as cultural exchange, diplomacy, and trade, facilitated through transnational connections, cross-border movements, and migrations amidst the backdrop of imperial expansion.

The archival research for this groundbreaking project will span across Lahore, India, and the UK, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the historical context and cultural dynamics shaping theatre during the colonial period.

BNU congratulates Dr. Qaisar Abbas on this remarkable achievement and acknowledges the significance of his research endeavors in shedding light on the cultural heritage of Lahore and its impact on the broader narrative of Asian studies.
