Prof. Salima Hashmi Curates 'Watan' Project in Dubai, Honoring Faiz Ahmed Faiz

Renowned artist and activist, Professor Salima Hashmi, the esteemed Director of UMISAA at the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (MDSVAD) at Beaconhouse National University (BNU), takes center stage in Dubai as she curates the 'Watan' Project, paying homage to her father, the legendary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

The "Watan" Project, meticulously curated by Prof. Salima Hashmi, showcases the profound vision and artistic prowess of Graciela Magnoni, a distinguished French-Uruguayan photographer. Magnoni's journey in capturing images commenced during her formative years in Brazil in the 1980s, blossoming into a remarkable career that unfolded against the backdrop of Latin American democracies' return post her completion of an MA in Journalism from the University of Minnesota.

Professor Hashmi, known for her dedication to the arts and history, has meticulously curated the 'Watan' exhibition to highlight Magnoni's captivating photographs, which resonate deeply with the themes and spirit of her late father's poetry, Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Through her thoughtful selection and arrangement, Prof. Hashmi brings to life the essence of cultures and communities, celebrating the enduring legacy of Faiz's work.

The ongoing 'Watan' Project, under the stewardship of Prof. Salima Hashmi, opened its doors on February 27, 2024, in Dubai, captivating audiences with its profound tribute to her late father, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, and the evocative imagery captured by Magnoni.
