Renowned Artist and Director of UMISAA, Professor Salima Hashmi, Receives Prestigious Sughra Rababi Lifetime Achievement Award

Professor Salima Hashmi, a distinguished painter, art educationist, writer, and curator, currently serving as the Director of UMISAA at the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (MDSVAD) at Beaconhouse National University (BNU), has been conferred with the esteemed Sughra Rababi Lifetime Achievement Award in Arts.

The award was presented during an exhibition and prize distribution ceremony organized by Rababi Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Pakistan Medical Association, at the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi. The event showcased the talents of students who participated in an art competition on the theme of Palestine.

Professor Salima Hashmi's vast contributions to the world of arts, both as an artist and an educator, were acknowledged with the Sughra Rababi Lifetime Achievement Award in Arts. Her role as the Director of UMISAA at MDSVAD has been instrumental in fostering a vibrant artistic community within BNU and beyond.

The Sughra Rababi Awards also recognized two other distinguished women for their exceptional contributions. Zohra Yusuf, former chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), was honored with the Sughra Rababi Human Rights Award. Meanwhile, Sadiqa Salahuddin, the director of the Indus Resource Centre, received the Sughra Rababi Humanitarian Award.

The event, which celebrated the convergence of art, activism, and humanitarian efforts, highlighted the power of artistic expression in addressing pressing global issues. Professor Salima Hashmi's recognition adds another feather to her illustrious career and stands as a testament to BNU's commitment to nurturing and honoring excellence in the field of arts and education.
