Kubra Khademi awarded Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by Ministry of Culture, France

Graduate of Fine Arts from Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design & a UMISAA Scholar, Kubra Khademi has been awarded with "Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters" award by Ministry of Culture, France.

Kubra Khademi is a Visual Artist/Performance Artist who graduated from BNU in 2013. She moved to Kabul and worked as a set/costume designer in several feature films. Khademi also focused on her own art practice, with several exhibitions taking place in Kabul. Due to a controversial performance piece she presented in February 2015, she was exiled from the country. She moved to Paris, France and since then, she has been participating at various art festivals and receiving world-wide acclamation and recognition.

Khademi was an artist in residence at La Porte Peinte in 2015. During the residency, she completed new work, a video titled Eternal Trial. Her performance, Kubra & Pedestrian Sign, in which she pointed out the lack of female representation in pedestrian signs, received widespread acclaim. She performed Kubra & Pedestrian Sign first in Paris and then in Gijon and Barcelona, Spain. She also did an Artist talk at The Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain.
