Talk by Iftikhar Dadi at SVAD
Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD), BNU, under its Series of Public Talks, organized a talk by Iftikhar Dadi on Tuesday 16th February, 2016. Iftikhar Dadi is a well-known artist and art historian of repute. He is an author of the book “Modernism and the Art of Muslim South Asia. He is Associate Professor at the Department of History of Art, Cornell University and has also served as Chair of Cornell's Department of Art (2010-2014).
In his talk, Iftikhar Dadi spoke about his journey as an artist and discussed his inspiration and techniques. He talked about his practice in detail and showed glimpses of his selected work. Most of the work that he discussed during the talk revolves around pop culture. He explained why a major portion of his work is inspired by popular culture. He also said that being both an artist and scholar, he values the importance of art education a lot. He commented that art education in Asia lacks critical thinking. He advised students to learn about history, humanities and society if they want to be a good artist.
The talk was followed by an interactive session where students and SVAD faculty asked questions from the guest.
