Basir Mehmood, faculty member at School of Visual Arts and Design, has been selected among one of the three shortlisted artists for The Abraaj Group Art Prize 2016. He has been awarded with a cash prize and invited to exhibit his work at The Abraaj Group Art Prize Exhibition 2016 curated by the awarded guest curator Mr. Nav Haq at Art Dubai (March 15, 2016). The selection was announced on October 12, 2015 at a breakfast hosted by Art Dubai in London.

Abraaj Group Art Prize is the most influential art prize in the MENASA region and recognizes notable artists from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. This is the third Abraaj Prize for BNU faculty. The earlier recipients include Ms. Risham Syed (2012) and Ms. Huma Mulji (2013) from the School of Visual Arts and Design.
