Department of Journalism

  • Are your degrees recognized by HEC and other foreign universities?

    Our degrees are recognized by HEC and foreign universities.

  • How many Major courses will be offered in BA (Hons.) in Social Sciences with Major in Media Studies?

    Major courses will be offered as per the rules of HEC (82 Credits for now).

  • Will there be any elective courses offered in the BA ( Hons) in Social Sciences with Major in Media Studies?

    Yes, electives from TFT and Social Sciences will be offered to the students of BA(Hons) in Social Sciences with Major in Media Studies.

  • Which degree is required for admission in MS and M.Phil?

    Degrees from the relevant disciplines of Social Sciences will be accepted; however, preference shall be given to the degrees holders in Media and Mass Communication.

  • Is thesis compulsory for students?

    Thesis is compulsory for MS and M.Phil and optional for BA (Hons.) and MA Mass Communication.

  • Is GAT compulsory for MS and M.Phil?

    GAT is compulsory for MS and M.Phil programs and minimum requirement of marks is 60.

  • Can I switch to Media Studies after doing F.Sc (Pre Medical+ Engineering)?

    Yes, students with Medical & Engineering background can apply for BA (Hons.) in Social Sciences with Major in Media Studies.

  • Are your students working in professional organizations?

    Many former students are employed in print, electronic, public relations, advertising, new media, film and research-related organizations. This field is very dynamic, hence offering diverse range of opportunities.

  • Is there any collaboration with media organizations?

    Yes, students are given opportunities to work in media and other relevant organizations.

  • After completing degree from BNU, do students get foreign scholarships?

    Students get national and foreign scholarships, including Fulbright, Chevening, Eramus & other scholarships .

  • Do you offer hands-on training?

    Yes, many course are based on hands-on training including TV Production, Film Making, Radio and Gazette Production.

  • What are the career paths of this field?

    After completing your degree in Media Studies you can work in print, electronic and online media. You can also be a part of any advertising or public relations company.

  • Is Journalism different from Media Studies?

    No, Journalism is not different from Media Studies. Media Studies is a broader degree which covers all areas of Journalism like reporting, editing, feature writing, copy writing, news writing, pre & post TV production, development Journalism and magazine production.

  • What are the objectives of the TFT programs?

    The Theater, Film, and Television Department aims at producing outstanding humanistic storytellers, industry leaders and scholars who can inspire change for a better world.

  • Are your degrees recognized by HEC?

    Yes, our degrees are recognized by HEC and International Universities.

  • Why should I attend TFT program?

    The BA (Hons.) in Social Sciences with Major in TFT is an unparalleled program where you can have electives from Media Studies and Social Sciences to help you broaden your horizons.

  • What are Major courses in the TFT?

    Major courses are as required by the HEC.

  • I have no TV, Film or Theatre experience. Is this degree program for me?

    Yes, the program is designed to introduce individuals with little or no film-making experience to the medium.

  • How hands-on is the training at TFT?

    All classes at TFT are designed to be of immediate and practical use. Students shoot in camera with lighting. The production, acting and screenwriting classes are practical based.

  • Do students edit their projects on digital editing systems?

    Students learn and edit on Windows Adobe Creative Suite and Apple Final Cut Pro workstations.

  • How much access will I have to equipment?

    TFT maintains the best ratio of equipment to students. They have access to the equipment. The editing lab is open during the working hours.

  • Do I own the creative work I make at the TFT (films, dramas, scripts, animation etc)?

    Students are the sole owners of all the projects they create during their studies at TFT. However, TFT reserves the right to use copies of student work for promotional purposes.

  • What is the average class day like?

    Students should expect to be busy five days a week in class. Classes are not limited to 9:30 am and 5:00 pm. Hours spent outside of the classroom may include pre-production and production tasks.

  • Is there any scope of Theatre in Pakistan?

    Theatre is the oldest performing art form and is the backbone of all other performing arts. In recent years, theatre activity has strengthened in three directions, namely the popular theatre of the masses, theatre of social relevance, and the elitist theatre which is mostly in the English language. Hence theatre has scope in Pakistan.

  • Can I get a job in the fields of Film, TV and Theatre?

    Yes, and many do very well. Some of our students have started their own businesses and others work for established companies.

  • Are there opportunities for internships?

    Yes, we have a very active cooperative education program where you can receive credit by working in the industry.
