The work of young artists from Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) is being celebrated in style at the SVAD Degree Show 2015. The Degree Show kicked off on May 29, 2015 and ran through June 3, 2015. The exhibition featured thesis works of over 70 graduating students of Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Fibre Studies, Bachelor of Design in Jewelry and Accessory Design, Bachelor of Design in Textile and Fibre Studies, BFA Visual Arts, BFA Visual Communication Design and MA Art and Design Studies. Present on the opening day were the Vice Chancellor BNU, Mr. Shahid Hafiz Kardar, Dean SVAD, Mr. Rashid Rana, Prof. Salima Hashmi, Prof. Naazish Ataullah, Prof. Sajjad Kausar, faculty and students of SVAD. Art enthusiasts from around the city, textile and fashion designers, and professionals from every walk of life also attended the six-day exhibition.
The SVAD Degree Show provided a platform to students to showcase their individual thesis work, which is the manifestation of years of research, experimentation, critical thinking and finely honed skills. The students received unanimous praise for their work. The visitors highly appreciated the uniqueness of the artwork on display - the fact that each work was thought provoking, challenging and intriguing in both form and content. Students addressed many poignant issues that concern to them as artists, as human beings, and as young inhabitants of a city and the world. The results were inspiring and magnificent to say the least. The young artists were ecstatic to receive accolades from the visitors. They thanked their teachers and mentors for inspiring them and giving them the freedom to explore their creative side.
Through their impressive work, these graduates have not only made BNU proud but have also raised the bar a bit higher for others. We like to wish them all the best and hope that they will contribute to the progress of Pakistan’s art scene.
