Prof. Naazish Ata-Ullah, Senior Fellow at Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD), Beaconhouse National University, has been invited at Whitechapel Art Gallery, London by British Council to be the panelist for a discussion on art education in Pakistan. The event, which will be held on 20th March 2015, is part of collaboration with the British Council Connections Through Culture Programme.
Connections Through Culture is a British Council Curatorial Exchange Programme between Pakistan, Bangladesh and the UK, which offers two residencies being hosted at the New Art Gallery, Walsall, and Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, for two emerging Pakistani and Bangladeshi artists and a Pakistani curator. In connection with this programme, the Whitechapel will host an afternoon of panel discussions on the state of art education in Pakistan and Bangladesh under the topic “Art schools: From Lahore to Dhaka and beyond.” The event will bring together artists, curators and researchers to discuss shared concerns and ideas on pedagogy and art practice, drawing upon the experience of art schools in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and making links with current practice on Art Schools in the UK. Prof. Naazish Ata-Ullah will be representing Pakistan there and will address the issue of how to historically situate the discourse on Art Schools in Pakistan.
