Department of Liberal Arts under its Distinguished Lecture Series organized a Talk by Dr. Mohammad Waseem, Professor of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, LUMS on the topic, “The Islamabad Dharna: Political Anthropology of an Event”. Present on the talk were Mr. Shahid Hafiz Kardar, Vice Chancellor BNU; Dr. Tariq Rehman, Dean Seeta Majeed School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences & School of Education; Mr. Ijaz Hussain, Assistant Professor Economics and Mr. Shehzad Amjad, Lecturer DLA.
Dr. Muhammad Waseem, in his talk, explored the dialectic between the Islamabad Dharna (sit-in) and the political system discovering connections between plan and action, contenders for power and strategies of action. He explained in detail the PTI Manifesto, Imran Khan’s discourse, Tahir-ul-Qadri phenomenon, possibilities of army’s intervention and political fallout following the sit-in protest. The lecture was followed by question and answer session.
Department of Economics, under its Distinguished Lecture Series, arranged a talk by Mr. Shahid Najam on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 on the topic "Human Development."
Mr. Najam has Master’s Degrees in LLM, Public Policy and Rural Development from London. He has, to his credit, experience of more than 39 years (18 years with the Government of Pakistan and more than 21 years with UN System) in policy and strategy formulation; development planning and programming ; formulation, implementation and monitoring of large scale projects and work plans; resource mobilization and management; disaster management and relief operations.
School of Education, Beaconhouse National University organized a talk by Dr. Tariq Rahman on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 under its Distinguished Lecture Series. The topic of his talk was "What was Jinnah's Pakistan? And what did we do to it?."
In his talk, Dr. Tariq Rahman highlighted the Jinnah’s vision for Pakistan through the excerpts of his speeches and letters. He discussed how our policy makers, political leaders and we as a nation have distorted that image over the years. He pointed at some of the policies that have harmed our country much more than the alleged inefficiency of our rulers. He also talked about some historical events that have resulted in the distortion of Jinnah’s vision of Pakistan. The talk was attended by students, faculty and staff of BNU. Vice Chancellor Mr. Shahid Hafiz Kardar was the chief guest on the occasion.
