Film Screening of TFT Graduates

Film Screening of TFT Graduates

The Department of Theatre, Film and Television (TFT) at School of Media and Communications (SMC), BNU organized film screening of its graduating batch on Saturday, 6 December 2014 at Alhamra Arts Council, Lahore. Twelve short films and documentaries were screened at the event which was well-attended by BNU students, faculty and general film enthusiasts.

Vice Chancellor BNU, Mr. Shahid Hafiz Kardar was the chief guest on the occasion. While addressing the audience, he appreciated the work of TFT students and said that we need young filmmakers who can raise different issues concerning the society. Head of Department of Theatre, Film and Television, Dr. Asghar Nadeem Syed also praised the effort of students and said that they have made BNU proud by making such wonderful films. Also present on the occasion were actress, playwright and director of social theatre Madeeha Gauhar; award-winner Pakistani journalist, playwright, screen writer, theatre and television director and a human rights activist Shahid Nadeem; filmmaker Bilal Lashari and other prominent personalities from the world of films, theater and television.

The films that were showcased at the thesis screening were innovative and meant for a diverse audience. Students explored different genres in their films including drama, comedy, horror and docu-drama. The topics of the films were also diverse and highlighted social issues that otherwise go unnoticed in mainstream media. From a heart-warming story of a blind child (Mubarak by Alizeb Raees) to an earthy take on the issue of blasphemy and attitude of our public towards it (Makhan Ki Kahani by Zeshan Khalid), the films projected different dimensions of the society we live in. Everybody loved the work of TFT students especially media veterans present on the occasion who were all praises for the young brigade of filmmakers.
