Dr. Wajiha Raza Rizvi, Associate Professor and Head of MS Film & TV, BNU, collaborated with Dr. Saima E. Shahid, Department of Mass Communication National University of Modern Languages Lahore and Dr. Saima Esma, Teacher and Trainer in Media Studies, GCU, Faisalabad to organize a full day workshop on feminist research methodologies at BNU on December 8, 2022. Dr. Rizvi and Dr. Najam Abbas, Senior fellow from East West Institute of UK presented papers as the keynote speakers. Dr. Rizvi presented on media and gender issues and Dr. Abbas on Applied Approaches to Gendered Research. While MS Film & TV students attended the workshop, it was also open to former PhD students and other BNU students and faculty.
Dr. Saima E. Shahid is Academic Consultant, HEC National Research Program for Universities' Project (Ref. No 20-16393/2021) and Director Research & Dialogue, Envision Pakistan Foundation (https://www.envisionpk.org/).She with Dr. Rizvi’s support planned the workshop under the HEC's National Research Program for Universities (NRPU). Her team is conducting research project:
Mapping out the Impact of Feminist Politics on Pakistani Culture: Issues, Gains and Challenges (A Critical Investigation of Indigenous Feminist Movement, 2000-2021).
The study investigates the impact on drama, advertising and literature. Predominantly being inductive research, the methodological approach of this project is qualitative in nature. The project aimed at training both BNU students and project participants for qualitative research skills. The title is:
"Methodological imperatives of feminist and gender studies research".
Dr. Shahid, Dr. Esma, and Dr. Najam Abbas have expressed interest in future collaborations. He has also shared media and gender research tools and templates with the MS Film & TV students.
