Media Journal Publishes Essay on Farooq Sulehria’s Book
‘Media Culture & Society’, a major international media studies journal, has published an essay on the comparison of themes in two book, ‘Television and the Afghan Culture Wars’ (2020) and ‘Media Imperialism in India and Pakistan’ (2018).
While the former is authored by Afghan-American scholar Wazhmah Osman, the latter is by BNU’s Dr. Farooq Sulehria, Assistant Professor, Department of Liberal Arts.
The essay titled, ‘Global and comparative perspectives on media and development’ is authored by Asif Akhtar, a PhD scholar at New York University.
“This essay reviews the works ‘Television and the Afghan Culture Wars’ (University of Illinois Press) by Wazhmah Osman and ‘Media Imperialism in India and Pakistan’ (Routledge) by Farooq Sulehria as recent contributions to the fields of global and comparative media studies. It considers the overlapping themes in these works through ruberics of media imperialism and development in terms of growth of television industry in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in the broad context of globalization and transnational media flows”.
