Pradeep Thalawatta’s photographic work “Roadscape” was a part of the exhibit at the Fukuoka Art Museum Grand Reopening Exhibition, Japan in March 2019.
Pradeep’s work is dominated by his experiences of the last three years living and teaching in Jaffna. It focuses on the rapid construction work taking place in Jaffna by the government of Sri Lanka. The artist placed his own images with the mouth, ears and eyes closed, in a digitally constructed large photo showing places where construction work has invaded Jaffna. These are the roads that the artist traveled in his daily commuting, along with people in Jaffna witnessing a change that they cannot change.
Hailing from Sri Lanka, Pradeep completed his BFA (Visual Arts) and MA in Art and Design from Beaconhouse National University on a South Asia Foundation Scholarship in 2007 and 2016 as a UMISAA (UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute for South Asian Arts) scholar. He has exhibited his work in Sri Lanka, India, Sweden, Maldives and London.
