SVAD’s Faculty shortlisted for Jameel Prize
The nominations for the 4th edition of the Jameel Prize have been recently announced and it includes two faculty members from Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD). Ghulam Mohammad, a graduate and faculty member of SVAD and David Chalmers Alesworth, former faculty member at SVAD have been shortlisted among 9 other artists and designers by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) for the prestigious prize.
V&A’s Jameel Prize is a biennial international art prize for contemporary artists and designers inspired by Islamic traditions of craft and design. Leading curators, designers, artists, and cultural figures from around the nominate applicants for the prize. The artists and designers in this year’s shortlist are based across a broad geographic region encompassing Pakistan, UK, UAE, Turkey, Iran, Brazil, USA, and Egypt. The winner will be announced on June 7, 2016 and the exhibition will open on June 8, 2016 at the Pera Museum in Istanbul, Turkey.
