Students become Digital Humanitartians at BNU Mapathon
MapGive Pakistan community in association with BNU Volunteer Society organized a mapathon at Beaconhouse National University (BNU) on November 17, 2015. The mapathon was hosted in celebration of OpenStreetMaps Geo Awareness Week.
The mapathon training session helped students to learn the skills of digital mapping during a disaster. Mr. Usman Latif from Digital Marketing Pakistan conducted the training session. The training session broadly covered topics like what is MapGive, what is OSM and HOT, how OSM works, how to map in OSM, and ultimately how to become a global digital humanitarian. After the initial briefing, students started to map a few selected earthquake hit areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Guided by MapGive representatives, students managed to map many of the areas and thus became the members of the growing MapGive Pakistan community.
