Dean Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) and South Asia's most prominent contemporary artist, Rashid Rana spoke about Art & Education at two different conferences recently. He was invited at the School of Tomorrow (SOT) Conference, a Beaconhouse initiative, as a panelist. He was a panelist on two sessions; “Setting Directions on the Future of Education” and “Politicising Art and Popular Culture Across Borders.” He discussed the role and responsibilities of art and cultural leaders and shed light on the impact of art in relation to instances of cultural encounter and trans-cultural interchange.

Rashid Rana also participated at Khayal Festival. In a conversation with Nour Aslam, he talked about his path-breaking project “Transpositions: Venice se Lahore” which broke the physical barriers of time and space between the people of Lahore and Venice. Set up at Venice and Lahore simultaneously, the interactive artwork featured a room at Venice Biennale with a video projection of a live feed from a mirrored space in Liberty Market, Lahore. This way, the project provided a two-way window between Venice, Italy and Lahore, Pakistan.
