School of Computer and Information Technology (SCIT), under its Guest Lecture Series, organized a talk by renowned Islamic scholars, Mr. John Fontain and Dr. Usman Lateef. The international scholars are visiting Pakistan as part of their Renaissance 2015 Tour that seeks to facilitate tolerance and compassion for a better social harmony in Pakistan. Present on occasion were Dean SCIT, Dr. Khaver Zia, HOD IT, Ms. Shazia Rizwan, faculty members and students of SCIT.
Dr. Usman Lateef is an Islamic historian and researcher who regularly delivers lectures on Islam at mosques and universities in the UK and internationally. He gave an enlightening talk on the topic of “Genocide: The Islamic Perspective.” After that, Mr. John Fontain spoke on the topic, “The God Solution,” which is also the title of his latest book. John Fontain embraced Islam in 2008 after coming into contact with Muslims in West Africa. Since then, he has been spreading the true message of Islam and clearing misconceptions about it at different international forums.
The focus of both the lectures was to project humanitarian teachings of Islam in the context of present scenario. By quoting examples from history and recent events, the speakers reinstate that Islam teaches its followers to preserve and honor the sanctity of life. In the concluding note, Dean SCIT, Dr. Khaver Zia said that we need to reflect upon our faith through the reading and understanding of Quran. He thanked the guest speakers for coming over to BNU for a very engaging session.
