Myths in Software Requirements – A talk by Mr. Sheraz Pervaiz at SCIT

School of Computer and IT (SCIT), under its Guest Lecture Series organized a talk by Mr. Sheraz Pervaiz on 7th April, 2015. The topic of the talk was Myths in Software Requirements and it was centered on the issues that companies face in understanding Software Requirements. The talk was attended by SCIT Dean, Dr. Khaver Zia; HOD IT, Ms. Shazia Rizwan, faculty members and students of SCIT.

Mr. Sheraz Pervaiz has been involved in Academics and Industry for the past fourteen years in different capacities. A graduate of University of Windsor, Canada (BCS, Computer Science) and Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences, Stuttgart, Germany (M.Sc, Software Technology), he has been engaged in different roles in the past such as Consultant, Project Manager and Engineering Manager in private organizations and Government Sector. Besides this, he has been involved with different universities including Government College University, Virtual University and Beaconhouse National University in the capacity of Associate Professor and Visiting Faculty/Consultant.

In his talk, Mr. Sheraz Pervaiz said that issues in understanding Software Requirements are among the core reasons for the failure of software projects. He said that usually, there usually exists a gap between expectations of a client and what is being developed by the software house. In order to fill this gap, software engineers and project managers must defy the myths that surround the entire process. He described each myth and gave real-life examples that proved the myths wrong. At the end of his talk, he took queries from students and gave them insights of what actually happen with Software Engineering Practices when put in place with true essence.
