Dr. Ruhi Khalid is the Director of Institute of Psychology, Beaconhouse National University in Lahore. She
was previously the Chairperson of the Department of Applied Psychology at Punjab University in Lahore,
as well as the Associate Dean Faculty of Life Sciences. The Government of Punjab awarded her a Central
Overseas Scholarship, and she got her Ph.D. in Psychology in 1986 from the University of Glasgow in
Scotland. Dr. Khalid was a Visiting fellow at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, USA, as a
Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholar (1997-1998). Her research focuses on social, health, clinical,
developmental, and gender psychology. She has undergone trainings in the following: Therapeutic
Interventions for victims of violent crimes from Center for Victims of Violent Crimes, Pittsburgh, USA;
Program for Qualified Sexual Assault Counselors in U.S.A. at Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater
Pittsburgh; and Victim Assistance Training Program for abused women and children at the University of
Pittsburgh. For three years, Dr. Khalid established a Higher Educational Link under the DFID between her
Department and the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at University College London (2001-
2004), and has also made significant contributions in the field of Psychology and Applied Psychology by
creating an effective curriculum for the B.Sc. in Psychology, M.Sc. in Psychology, M.Phil Psychology, MS
Clinical and Counseling Psychology, Ph.D. in Psychology, and Gender Studies. Several psychometric
measures are constructed by her that are now acknowledged and used by researchers all over the
world.
Dr. Khalid is a member of a number of prestigious Professional and Academic societies in Pakistan, as
well as in Britain and the U.S.A. She serves as a member of Punjab Healthcare Commission and Mental
Health Authority, and is also a member of the British Psychological Society and American Psychological
Association. Numerous webinars, seminars, and conferences on a national and international scale have
been organized by her, and she is also on the Editorial Board of reputable scientific journals. Over 100
research papers have been published to her credit. Dr. Khalid works as a consultant to various mental
health organizations for people with special needs. Several Ph.D. students in Psychology have
successfully completed their doctoral work under her supervision. In 2005, the Higher Education
Commission of Pakistan honored Dr. Khalid for her contributions to academia.
