An Agreement was signed on 24th
Feburary 2009 between the Italian Archeological Mission and the
Beaconhouse National University to launch courses for training
in Archeological restoration and conservation of cultural
heritage.
Under this agreement, Beaconhouse National
University will organize courses and workshops for training
experts and employees of Departments of Archeology and Museum
and other interested in the subject to improve expertise in the
conservation of tangible cultural heritage like monuments and
archeological sites. ites.
Prof. Luca Maria Oliveri, the head of Italian
Archeological Mission and an eminent Italian Scholar will
conduct these courses. The Italian Archeological Mission (IsIAO)
formerly known as ISMEO was founded by Giuseppe Tucci and is
operating in Swat in collaboration with the Department of
Archeology and Museum since 1956. This training programme will
be funded as a part of a new project signed between Italy and
Pakistan recently entitled “Archeology and Conservation
Technical School”. 221;.
Another MoU was signed between Beaconhouse National University
and the University for Foreigners at Perugia, Italy, to promote
the teaching of Italian language by Professor Stefania Giannini,
Rector, University for Foreigners of Perugia, Italy and Mr.
Sartaj Aziz, Vice Chancellor of Beaconhouse National University,
Lahore. The Perugia University for Foreigners was established in
1921 to offer courses in Italian language and culture. Currently
it has 8000 mostly foreign students enrolled.
The Italian Ambassador H.E. Vincenzo Prati, who was also present
on the occasion, said that educational collaborations between
Universities in Pakistan and Universities and Research
Institutions in Italy will not only enhance knowledge and
professional skills but also improve the relations between the
two countries.
Mr. Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri, former Foreign Minister and members
of the BNU Board of Governors was also present at the occasion,
and thanked Italy for its cooperation with BNU.
