Inter-Universities Quiz Competition
 
The Institute of Psychology, Beaconhouse National University, arranged an Inter-Universities Quiz Competition on the theme of Cognition on Tuesday, April 07, 2009, in its City Campus at Zafar Ali Road, Lahore. This event was a continuation of the different activities of the Mental Health Day 2009 that was celebrated on 6th April by the Institute of Psychology to promote awareness of mental health issues and change the attitude of youngsters towards the handicapped and less privileged members of our society.
 
Teams of students from different educational institutions participated in the Quiz competition.  The team from Kinnaird College University won the first prize and GC University team received the second prize in the quiz competition. The Chairperson BNU Foundation, Mrs. Nasreen Mahmud Kasuri graced the event as chief guest and distributed certificates and prizes to the winning students. Results of the Poster Exhibition that was held a day ago were also announced. The team from GC University won the first prize in the poster exhibition, whereas Beaconhouse National University students ranked second. The runner up teams were also encouraged with certificates.
 
It was the first of its kind event at Beaconhouse National University Lahore. Dr. Ruhi Khalid, the Director, Institute of Psychology highlighted the importance of holding such stimulating and healthy activities in the current conditions of our country. She thanked the guests and presented flowers to the chief guest.

Mental Health Day:

The Institute of Psychology, Beaconhouse National University, arranged a Mental Health Day on Monday 6th April, 2009 in its City Campus at Zafar Ali Road, Lahore. The event was organized to promote awareness of mental health issues and change the attitude of youngsters towards the handicapped and less privileged members of our society. The Cuban Ambassador H.E. Gustavo Machin Gomez inaugurated the ceremony. Mrs. Nasreen Mahmud Kasuri, Chairperson BNU Foundation, and the Vice Chancellor Beaconhouse National University, Mr. Sartaj Aziz welcomed the worthy guests to the event. 
 
The following activities were planned on this day:
 
1. Food Fair where students had set up food stalls
2. Handicrafts Stalls that were set up by different institutes of the Mentally Challenged
3. Inter-Universities Poster Competition on Gender Issues
4. Psychological Assessment Facility for students and faculty
  
Teams of students from different public and private sector universities actively participated in the activities. The students from different schools of Beaconhouse National University also participated in these activities. Informatory brochures on various mental health topics were distributed in students and visitors. Dr. Ruhi Khalid, the Director, Institute of Psychology, announced that the proceeds of the above-mentioned activities will be donated to different institutes of the mentally challenged. She said that the purpose of holding the different activities on Mental Health Day is to promote awareness and empathy for the marginalized, handicapped and less-privileged individuals of the society and to change the attitudes of our youngsters towards them. She further said that it is important to encourage the students to play an active role in the healthy altruistic activities that are greatly needed in our academic institutions.
 
 
                                 

THIRD CONVOCATION

The 3rd convocation of Beaconhouse National University will be held on 5th December 2008 at 10:00am. The chancellor of the University M. Salman  Taseer will preside.

 Graduating students are requested to attend the rehearsal of the event on 4th December 2008 (Thursday) at 10:00am in the city campus.

WORKSHOP ON DIGITAL LIBRARY AND E-BRARY

A Workshop on Digital Library and E-brary was held at BNU on 7th October 2008. The workshop was organized by the BNU Library in collaboration with National Digital Library Program (NDLP) of Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad.

 NDLP Project Coordinator Ms. Tamkanat conducted the hands-on Workshop which was attended by faculty members from different schools of the University.

Student Qasim Perform in Dubai

Qasim Jaffer, senior student at the Department of Theatre , Film and TV Studies, School of Liberal Arts has been selected to witness Shahrukh Khan's 'Temptations Reloaded' Concert being performed on 26th October in Dubai. Qasim is a straight A Student at SLA and is planning to release his first solo album by the end of December 2008.

The 'dream trip' has been made possible through the concerted efforts of Mr. Salman Ahmad of Portfolio World and Prof. Navid Shahzad, Dean, School of Leberal Arts.

This is the first of a series of international exposures planned for students at SLA. The next event is a trip to the annual Jaipur Literary Festival planned for January 2009!

Student Hasham Win First Orize

Hasham bin Munawwar, sophomore student at the Department of Theatre, Film and TV Studies, School of Liberal Arts won first prize for the 'Best Vocals' at the recently concluded Youth Performing Arts Festival organization by the Rafi Peer Theatre Company in Lahore.
