The Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM), School of Education at the Beaconhouse National University held a Charity Fun Fair on the 9th of June, 2012 at the BNU City Campus. This event was held to showcase the community project efforts of the eight masters students by the names of Ms. Rafia Ali, Ms. Shazia Irshard, Ms. Arfa Irfan, Ms. Amna Talal, Ms. Somia Sher, Ms. Sana Javed, Ms. Naila Jabbar and Ms. Ambreen Gulfam as a part of their "Community Project" course work taught by Mrs. Mahvesh Jadoon who's brainchild was to celebrate “Teachers as Leaders” by bringing together education, leadership and outreach to improve society at large and extend the ambit of her teacher-students' experience beyond the class room. The event was organized through collection of sponsorships and it was an independent event with no financial contribution sought from the university itself. The fun fair was made successful under the kind guidance and encouragement of the Head of Department, Mrs. Rahat Rizwan, and the constant support of the Dean of School of Education, Dr. Tariq Rahman.
The event was tied to contributing towards Pakistan Rising, which is a movement to create a modern, united, globally integrated and progressive Pakistan. Their main aim is to assist their fellow citizens who are suffering in poverty and to empower them to become productive members of society. The student teachers of ELM had been collecting books and toys from their respective schools to support Pakistan Rising in its efforts to build a one of a kind Toy Library along with their primary schools in Swat.
The Charity Fun Fair 2012 consisted of many fun activities for the youth, families and ladies including musical performances, portrait sketch artists, book stalls and many delicious food stalls. There was a jumping castle, face painting, puppet and magic show for children followed by several musical performances.
The BNU Charity Funfair was attended by several children, family members and a plethora of enthusiasts who enjoyed the ambience, the music and the food. There were several donations given to Pakistan Rising by the audience on this occasion over and above the contribution of books and toys made by the Masters ELM students.
