The School of Education (SE) at the Beaconhouse National University founded in 2005 was established in response to the deeply felt need in Pakistan and the region for improvement in quality of teacher education. It has become one of the leading institutions for teacher education in Pakistan. Realizing the potential of education for transforming lives, the School of Education is committed to making a positive contribution to the development of individuals, institutions and society.

The School caters to both in-service and pre-service professionals from both public and private sector institutions. Through the courses and programs, the School reaches a diverse population of trainees from different education sectors and levels.

All the programmes offered at the School of Education are research-intensive and are based on the philosophy that teacher educators must be engaged in a continual process of inquiry. They are designed keeping in view the challenges of change that individuals, institutions and societies are facing and aim at preparing its students as effective agents of change. The teaching and assessment techniques used by the School encourage experiential learning and problem-solving skills. The research-led courses offered at SE encourage students to gain insights from research in pedagogy to develop skills and values needed for imparting quality education. Keeping these strengths in view, the School of Education at Beconhouse National University envisions the following standards of excellence for the next decade so:

Dr. Tariq Rahman delivered a lecture entitled

‘The Economic and Political Consequences of Language Policies and Practices: the case of north India and Pakistan’,  Distinguished Lectures, Lahore University of Management Sciences, 24 Sept 2014, Lahore.

 

Dr. Tariq Rahman gave his keynote address entitled

‘Threats to the Modern University: with focus on Pakistan after the 18th Amendment’, Keynote Speech, National Conference on Devolution of Education: the Post-18th Amendment Scenario’. 02 Oct 2014, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad.

 

Dr. Tariq Rahman presented a paper entitled

‘Modernization of Names in Pakistan’, 3rd Conference of the International Society for the Linguistics of English, 24 Aug 2014, University of Zurich, Switzerland.

 

EID Holidays

Beaconhouse National University will remain closed from October 6, 2014 to October 8, 2014 (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) on account of Eid ul Azha. We wish a Joyous Eid to the BNU community!

Dr. Tariq Rahman Takes Charge as Dean of SLASS

Professor and Dean School of Education, Dr. Tariq Rahman has been given the charge of Dean, Seeta Majeed School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Beaconhouse National University.  

Dr. Tariq Rahman will also hold charge as Acting Dean, School of Education.

Dr. Tariq Rahman Awarded the Doctor of Letters by the University of Sheffield

Dr. Tariq Rahman, Dean of School of Education, Beaconhouse National University has been awarded a D. Litt (Doctor of Letters) (scholarship and research on the linguistic history of the languages of the Muslims of Pakistan and north India including Urdu-Hindi and English)degree by the University of Sheffield in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a researcher, scholar and author. Two years ago, Dr. Tariq Rahman was asked by the University of Sheffield, U.K. to submit his published work for the examination of a higher doctorate. The examiners have now recommended him for D.Litt at the Research and Innovation services of University of Sheffield. Read More>>

 

BNU embarks on a Project for Supporting the Implementation of RTI in Punjab

The Punjab Government enacted the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act on 16th of December, 2013. The purpose of this law is to promote free flow of public information to ensure accountability and transparency in the functioning of public bodies.  By providing the right to seek public information without providing any reason, the law empowers citizens to hold the Government answerable and accountable for its services, and ensures effective participation of the citizens in decision making process. The Birth of the Knowledge-Revolution by Dr. Tariq Rahman

Dr Tariq Rahman, Dean School of Education, gave a talk on “The Birth of the Knowledge-Revolution” on December 20, 2013 at BNU Tarogil Campus. The talk was arranged as part of BNU 10th anniversary celebrations. The lecture traced out the birth of modernity, one major feature of which is the exponential increase in the knowledge we witness on a daily basis. Dr Rahman said that there was no simple explanation for this phenomenon; however, the talk discussed some factors which have led to it. Read More>>

 



There is a proposal for a new affordable fee structure for all SE degrees. The specific proposals are as follows:

  • A concession of 50% in tuition fee will be given to  private students (those not sponsored by BSS or HEC ) for all programmes beginning from Fall 2014.
  • No scholarships/concessions will be given to those availing the above facility.
  • This programme will be run on an experimental basis and BNU reserves the right to abolish or modify it after one year. However, those who are studying under the new fee structure will graduate under the same fee structure even if it is changed for new students.
