Institute of Psychology's participation at the 7th International Conference by the National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-e-Azam University
The faculty and students of the Institute of Psychology attended the 7th International Conference “Positive Psychology: Developing a Flourishing Community” organized by the National Institute of Psychology (NIP), Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) held on November 29 - 30, 2018, at the National Centre for Physics, Islamabad. The conference raised awareness about myriad subjects such as positive strengths and virtues, spirituality as a healing practice, positive interventions for institutionalized children and also regarding other pertinent positive psychology related domains.
Keynote Address: Dr. Ruhi Khalid, Director at the Institute of Psychology, delivered a keynote address at the opening session of the address titled “Negating Determinism and Moving Towards Positive Psychology.” The keynote address provided the audience with factual knowledge regarding the emergence of “Positive Psychology” as a school of thought. It further stressed on how enhancing individual happiness, in conjunction with alleviating mental illness, should be an important scientific endeavour.
Chairing Scientific Session: Dr. Ruhi Khalid and Dr Farhat Jamil also chaired scientific sessions at the conference. The sessions focused on papers targeting various important topics including cyber bullying, experiences of expatriates and positive interventions for institutionalized children. Both the sessions turned out to be especially fruitful and the audience applauded and showed great interest in the overall work presented.
Presentation of Empirical Research: A paper titled “Reasons for Repatriation: Economic Locus of Control and Self Efficacy of Gulf based Male Expatriates” authored by Abeer Shahid and Dr. Ruhi Khalid was presented at the conference.
A paper titled “Women Police Officers: Stress and Coping” authored by Bismah Tayyab, Dr. Farhat Jamil, and Dr. Ruhi Khalid was presented at the conference. Along with this poster titled “Cyber bullying, Self-Esteem and Interpersonal Trust in Young Adults” authored by Sijil Shahbaz, Dr. Farhat Jamil and Dr. Ruhi Khalid was also presented at the conference.
Poster Presentation of Empirical Work: A poster titled “Social Information Processing and Disruptive Behavioral Problems in School Children” authored by Dr Amna Butt and Dr. Ruhi Khalid was presented at the conference.
