Institute of Psychology organized Mental Health Day
The Institute of Psychology at Beaconhouse National University hosted Mental Health Day activities at BNU, Tarogil campus on 22nd February 2018. The event was aimed to create awareness about mental illness and reduce the stigma attached to mental health problems. The event was also organized to encourage the students’ altruistic behavior and contribute to the welfare and well-being of the society. Mental Health Day featured the following events:
Inter University Poster Competition: Various universities sent in their entries for the poster competition on the theme of “Harmony in Society”. The posters were judged by internationally acclaimed artist Mr. Rashid Rana, known linguist Dr. Tariq Rahman and Professor Dr. Ruhi Khalid, Director of Institute of Psychology, BNU. The first prize went to Aimen Batool from Lahore College Women’s University.
Inter University Quiz Competition: Five leading public and private universities of Lahore participated in the quiz competition with Punjab University bagging the first position after a crunch final round against Government College University.
Psychometric Assessment Services: The participating students took special interest in the psychometric assessment services offered on campus as part of mental health activities. Students especially gravitated towards the “How Confident Are You?” assessment.
Mental Health Carnival: A mental health day carnival was also arranged where stalls of handicrafts were put up by special institutes as well as food stalls by the students. The activities also included canvas of catharsis and performing arts.
The event was a huge success and was well received by students and professionals. The proceeds from this event shall go to charitable, non-profitable organizations that work to ease the suffering of people with special needs.
