Purposeful and versatile, graphic design is the most
pervasive form of visual culture. Everywhere and everyday,
we interact with it - consciously or unconsciously,
ephemerally or memorably. Design, at its best, can inform,
delight, persuade, inspire, captivate and alert us. At its
worst, it can mislead, offend, discriminate and
sensationalize. This duality makes design provocative and
challenging.
At SVA, we believe that design can be an immensely valuable,
creative and intellectual enterprise. Its potential lies not
only in its importance to commerce and culture but in its
service and inspiration to humanity. The Bachelors of Fine
Art in Visual Communication Design is a four year
undergraduate programme for students who intend to undertake
interdisciplinary fine art study. There are three designated
strands open to candidates in the second year of the BFA
programme. These are: Print Design, Illustration and
Electronic Design.
Our teaching strategies include self-directed and group projects, critiques,
lectures, student led-seminars, workshops, conferences and a close rapport
between students, faculty and the industry. Besides highly qualified faculty,
visiting practitioners share their hands-on experiences of working in the world
of design. The programme is geared to meet the demands of today's globally
competitive and unpredictable job market which prioritizes flexibility,
precision, mobility, creative risks, teamwork, innovation and foresight. We
foresee exciting vocational possibilities in the field of Visual Communication
Design in Pakistan such as typographers, copy-writers, illustrators, design
historians and critics, cartoonists, web designers, art directors and media
designers. The School of Visual Arts expects that graduates of this programme
will pioneer cutting-edge design in Pakistan and will be instrumental in
charting its future course.
