The Department of Fine Art offers a comprehensive undergraduate
programme in studio art, supported by theory and history of art.
The curriculum comprises of a dynamic combination of studio
courses, lectures, and seminars, offered to students of SVA as well
as other schools at BNU. In keeping with the multifarious nature
of emerging forms in contemporary fine art practices, the degree
programme offers a variety of courses and areas of concentration.
During the four years of study, the programme covers traditional
techniques and materials, emerging tools and technologies, and
concepts integral to art making and art awareness. A unique feature
of the Fine Art programme is the opportunity it provides its
students to design a programme of study that best suits their needs
and ambitions. The programme concentrates on creative inquiry,
risk-taking and the exploration of an individual approach. At the
end of the Foundation Studies programme, students work in an
interdisciplinary group in the Fine Art Major Studio, a mandatory
course for all fine art students, Semester Four through Eight. This
course consists of various independent projects, designed to give
students an opportunity to find an area of study that is of interest
to them. Students continue to develop individual practices until
the completion of their degree, parallel to taking the required studio
and theory electives. For the first time in Pakistan, the School
of Visual Arts recognizes New Media Arts as a major means of
artistic expression. In addition to Miniature Painting, Painting,
Printmaking and Sculpture, the Fine Art Department offers specializations
in Drawing, Photography, and Art History.
