MC-B-101 Pakistan Studies

This course is meant to familiarize the students with the background of Pakistan Movement and history of Pakistan since independence.

 

CS-100 Computer Literacy

A course of computer literacy to train the students in the use of computers for journalistic activities.

 

MC-B-104 Communication Theories

A course of communication theories which covers process and concepts of communication including the techniques of persuasion and uses of communication for achieving various national and international objectives

 

MC-B-119 Analytical Study of Urdu Journalism

A course of analytical study of Urdu journalism. It is meant to compare and contrast Urdu journalism in Pakistan with the English language journalism. Various trends of Urdu journalism and how they differ from the trends of English journalism is the idea of the course.

 

MC-B-433A English Language Skills

This course will be based on English Language for journalistic purposes. It will meet the specific needs of students of Mass Communication. It will enable them to develop the language skills essential for spoken and written communication.

 

MC-B-433B English Language Skills

This course will deal with language as a symbolic process, communicative process, the communicative importance of language and the social importance of language.

 

MC-B-435 Urdu Language

This course will deal with the origin and development of Urdu language and the various literacy movements of Urdu language and the use of language for the purpose of public opinion formation. Spoken Urdu is still necessary for those who aspire to join electronic media i.e. television and radio broadcasting

 

MC-B-116 Print Media History

A course of print media history including origin and development of printing, newspapers and magazines. Various trends of journalism in national and international field

 

MC-B-117 Reporting

A course of newspaper reporting with techniques of various types of reporting like, crime reports, parliamentary reports, political reports, investigative and interpretative reports and human interest stories.

 

MC-B-117 Media and Society

A course of media and society includes how society influences the working of mass media and how mass media in turn affect the social norms and values.

 

MC-B-205 Social Implications of the Media

A course of workshops and seminars to debate and discuss various current topics in journalism

 

MC-B-115 Islamiyat

The basics of Islam and its relevance with the modern world and comparison with other important religions of the world.

 

MC-B-434 Sub editing/Urdu

A sub editors’ role is most important in journalism. A sub editor is responsible for bringing out newspaper editions, preparing bulletins for radio and television and editing news scripts. A newspaper can be produced without reporters but a publication in any language is not possible without sub editors. An Urdu sub editor should be well versed in written Urdu language skills.

 

MC-B-436 Sub Editing/ English

This course aims at preparing students for careers as sub editors in English publications and electronic media.

 

MC-B-202 Magazine Journalism I

A course of magazine journalism is meant for training those students who are interested in periodical journalism. Types of magazine journalism like specialized magazines and professional publications are also a part of this course.

 

MC-B-203 Public Relations

A course of public relations with basics of public relations practice including importance and working of public relations institutions both government and private.

 

MC-B-103 International Relations and Comparative Politics

A course in international relations and comparative politics is considered essential for journalism and mass communication students to familiarize them with current national and international trends.

 

MC-B-115 Islamiyat

The basics of Islam and its relevance with the modern world and comparison with other important religions of the world

 

MC-B-118 Communication Laws / Ethics

A course of media laws and ethics consisting various laws governing the regulation of electronic and print media and ethics followed by media in various societies.

 

MC-B-215 Editorial and Column Writing

A course of editorial and column writing provides for opinion writing skills necessary for column writing and editorial writing.

 

MC-B-216 Magazine Journalism II

A course of magazine journalism part II is the advanced technique of editing a periodical for specialized journalism.

 

MC-B-217 Media of Mass Communication, Comparative Study

A course of media and mass communication, i.e. print, broadcast, television and films, and comparative study of media and its impact on society.

 

MC-B-303 Principles of Advertising

A course consisting of principles of advertising. Advertising is a modern profession with a lot of opportunities in Pakistan. This course aims at providing basic information about techniques and working of advertising as an art and business.

 

MC-B-204 Applied Sociology

A course of applied sociology to familiarize the students with various social and cultural trends and problems of Pakistani society that affect the trends of Pakistani society.

 

MC B 301 Radio Journalism

A course of radio journalism including techniques of preparing radio news bulletins and radio discussion programmes. Essentials for broadcast journalism

 

MC-B-317 International Mass Media and its Impact

International mass media and its impact is a study into how international and Pakistani media reports and deals with issues that have a major influence on our lives, such as politics, gender, natural disasters and terrorism.

 

MC-B-422 Organizational Communication

The course will help students develop a deeper understanding of how the study of organizational communication can aid them in improving the performance and well being of people at work.

 

MC-B-421 Communication and Culture

Cultural norms and values play an important role in the contents of communication for various purposes like public relations, advertising, public opinion and communication for international diplomacy. The course is designed to enable the students to know the brief history of cultural background of various regions in Pakistan and its relationship with communication in modern times.

 

MC-B-423 History of Mass Media

Mass Communication has come a long way from verbal communication to modern day satellite communication and information technology. The course is designed to cover the historical background of mass media in the world with a particular reference to South Asia and Pakistan.

 

MC-B-302 Television Journalism

Television journalism includes origin and development of television as a medium of information, techniques of TV news reporting and preparing programmes of current affairs.

 

MC-B-417 Communication Research Report

Students will be required to write a research report on any aspect of the working of mass media. Conducting opinion polls and surveys is also a part of this course.

 

MC-B-424 Graphic Designing

The students will be offered an unparalleled combination of creative freedom and productivity. The students will have an exposure to the latest software, which are used by graphic artists and other professionals.

 

MC-B-425 Media Mechanics

Besides editorial contents, the management of various Mass Media like newspapers, radio broadcasting and television, is as important as the contents of Mass Media. The course is designed to equip the students with its relationship with management skills in various departments of Mass Media other than the editorial contents like printing techniques, circulation problems, advertising revenues and management problems.

 

MC-B-426 Environmental Journalism

Today we confront environmental decisions. Although these issues are complex, individuals and policy makers must still make choices, and how those choices are understood will have a major impact on politics and public policy. The news media are vital to this process. The way they analyze and translate complicated environmental issues can contribute to more informed decision making. But this will happen only if journalists themselves are well-informed about a wide range of economic, scientific, social and political subjects. Such knowledge is not easy to acquire.

 

MC-B-437 Event Management

The organization of business and creative elements is essential for responsible event management. This course defines event management and the role of the event manager. In this course, students will examine, compare and apply best practices in human resource management including staffing, volunteer management, labour relations, team building and training. They will also compare best practices in financial management including budget development, cash flow management and accountability

 

MC-B-402 Public Relations in Pakistan

A course covering in detail the origin and development of public relations in Pakistan. The working of various government and important private public relations organizations is also a part of the course.

 

MC-B-404 International Press Systems

It is a course of comparative study of press systems followed in various societies in the world like Western, Muslim and communist societies.

 

MC-B-218 Pictorial Journalism

A course of pictorial journalism. Pictorial journalism is the most important part of modern journalism. The course includes origin development and effects of pictorial journalism.

 

MC-B-318 Economics and Commerce

A course of economics and commerce journalism with basic information about national and international economic systems and essentials for commerce journalism.

 

MC-B-427 Digital Video/Audio

This course introduces the concept of non linear video and audio editing using digital video and audio technology. It will equip students with the basic skills required to capture and edit video and audio material, and to master to a variety of formats.

 

MC-B-428 Interactive Techniques

This course will help the students understand Interactivity, its concepts and technologies.

 

MC-B-429 Communication Research Report

Mass communication process is incomplete without collecting a proper feedback. Research methods in mass communication make a student aware of various research techniques to collect such feedback. The students will be required to produce either an analytical or an empirical research report on a given topic.

 

MC-B-430 Political History of Pakistan

Journalism is the coverage of day to day activities of the people in a given social environment. As such journalism and journalists are closely related to the political trends prevailing in society. The course is designed to equip the students with the political background of Pakistan.

 

MC-B-431 Film as a Medium of Communication

Film is an important medium of communication along with print and electronic media. The medium of films has been used throughout the world for communicating some serious political, social and cultural themes worldwide. The course is designed to equip the students with the background history of film as a medium of communication.

 

MC-B-432 International Communication

The course contents are communication among nations, controls and restrictions on cross border flow of information, inter-cultural communication, media and foreign policy and conflict between free flow of communication vs. media hegemony by the West.
