Theatre studies form the backbone of the professional degree
in the performance arts. The Foundation Year i.e. Semesters
I and II concentrate on histories of theatre, film and TV
performance and introduce the student to acting techniques.
Annual productions establish a platform to test theory with
practice.
Subsequent semesters track theories and aesthetics of
production while critically examining the ‘script’ and the
‘screenplay’ in the context of shorts, documentaries, and
narratives. Hands on workshops address costume craft and
scenography skills.
Students select a major by the fourth semester, while an
area focus determines selection of relevant courses. Final
year projects range from actual filming, written scripts to
video productions.
Productions: Public productions of the Dept. are directed by
members of the resident faculty, guest directors from the
professional theatre, and on occasion by senior students
majoring in direction. End semester student productions are
graded by a jury comprising faculty from the School and
practicing artists.
Apart from theatre activities, TFT has established Starting
Line Films, an in house production platform for films and
videos.
