The vision of the School of Computer and IT is to produce graduates who can compete academically, technically and professionally with the best in the country.

To this end the School places special emphasis in all areas which have an impact on the provision of quality education namely quality of intake, curriculum development and revision, selection of faculty, teaching methodology, examination system and co-curricular activities.

The School is conscious of the fast changing requirements of the market which emanate from new systems and technologies. In particular, the Internet coupled with the emerging mobile technology is having a profound effect on the working of the business and commerce world. In response to these changing needs, the School has updated its existing curriculum and introduced three new undergraduate programs from academic year 2007-08 namely software engineering, network and mobile computing, and finance and business computing. A high profile Masters program has also been launched to cater to the needs of the business and commerce graduates

By virtue of being positioned in a liberal arts university, the School of IT offers the advantage to its students of developing a well rounded academic profile. Students can take up any number of electives from a diverse suite of courses which are offered by the other six schools of the University.

The School offers seven programs, namely:

MS in Finance and Business Computing
BSc(Hons) in Finance and Business Computing
BSc(Hons) in Management and Business Computing
BSc(Hons) in Software Engineering
BSc(Hons) in Network & Mobile Computing
BSc(Hons) in Telecom Systems
BSc(Hons) in Multimedia Systems

The MS program requires 2 years (72 credit hrs) and the BSc (Hons) program requires 4 years (130 or plus credit hours) of full time study. All the above programs emphasize the understanding of concepts, complemented by practice. Students accrue the real advantage of a broad-based education by opting to study any number of elective courses offered by other schools of the University.

The common denominator of all the above programs is the emphasis on concepts complemented by practice. To achieve this objective, the lab is designated as an integral part of the learning environment.

Each program is built up around five streams of study. In each semester, students take up one course from each stream to complete their study suite. As they progress along to higher semesters, they are offered higher level courses from these streams. In the concluding semesters optional courses are available. Each program has a mandatory final year project/dissertation, which provides students with an opportunity to put into practice what they have studied in their initial years.
